Healthy Eating From this year on we will be working closely with the Food Standards Agency as part of our commitment to health and wellbeing. It is our goal to provide healthier products and as much advice and support as our clients will need to help them deliver a healthier menu to their customers.
We’ve been manufacturing high quality cooked meats and supplying speciality foods to the catering industry since 1989. Our mandate has always been to provide good food to our customers, which has ensured that our range is inherently focussed on health and wellbeing as well as quality. All of our product selections feature healthier options as well as inherently healthy products that are made using natural or nutritional ingredients. Health and wellbeing are important to us and we do everything possible to bring our healthier products to the attention of our customers. Our buyers, development team and quality assurance team have been working successfully with suppliers and in-house production to reduce salt and fat levels in many of our products and to source new products that are lower in salt and fat content. Our own 30 Second Bacon, a cooked English back bacon, was already a multi-award winning product when we lowered the salt content from 2.9g per 100g to 0.6g – which is well inside the FSA recommendations for salt content – successfully creating a much healthier product that has become even more popular than before. More recently we developed the Grange Gammon range, a lower fat and low salt option (only 0.76g of salt per 100g). Beyond our own cooked meats we have successfully sourced lower fat cakes and pies, a wide range of low fat and low salt soups made from entirely natural ingredients, healthier juice drinks and a wealth of inherently healthy ingredients for the catering kitchen. We have introduced viable portion control with a wide selection of individual products and smaller portions of indulgent lines including cup cakes, which are offered as an alternative to larger slices of cake. Through sales and marketing materials we have promoted all our healthier options to the point where they are enjoying as much if not more success than the rest of our portfolio. Our Forward Commitment in 2011 and 2012 1) We will work closely with the FSA to formulate and develop a new Food Strategy and Nutritional Policy that will help us further communicate our work on Health & Wellbeing to our customers. 2) We will continue to develop and expand our range of healthier products, making sure that our customers are fully aware of their inclusion and the existence of current products of this type. We will intensify the marketing of these products to allow customers to identify and purchase them more easily. 3) As part of our new Food Strategy and Nutritional Policy we will increase the amount of nutritional information available, develop new marketing materials to raise awareness of nutrition and offer guidance for existing customers on developing healthier menus.
