Food Focus Southover Cooked Meats
Southover Cooked Meats has been making traditional, award winning cooked meats for over twenty years as part of Southover Food Company and throughout that time it has been and remains the backbone of the business. Everything is produced by hand and cooked using traditional methods, such as the oak smokery, which uses gently seasoned oak chips to impart an authentic and complex flavour to carefully selected cooked meats such as hams and turkey. The hams in particular have always been at the core of the range with a variety of flavours and types, such as bone-in and boneless, dry, breaded or smoked amongst others, but recent award success has brought other well established lines to the fore, like the 100% natural cooked beef and the low salt English cooked back bacon. Innovative, award winning products like the Grange Gammons have taken the Southover Cooked Meats selection into new territory with an affordable, high quality boneless ham that is perfect for slicing or carving, great value and low in salt and fat (not only does the salt content fall well within the Food Standards Agency’s recommendations for 2010, it will be within the greatly reduced salt content recommendations for 2011 and even 2012). All these cooked meats are carefully produced to meet the highest standards possible, but such attentiveness to quality hasn’t impaired the production departments ability to provide large volumes as well as individual orders and bespoke product development. This flexibility, capacity and production know-how has placed Southover Cooked Meats and Southover Food Company firmly at the forefront of quality cooked meat production. The two production units were completely rebuilt last year to ensure an even higher level of productivity without having to compromise on quality and Southover Cooked Meats can now produce sliced meats in almost any quantity at short notice and provide a wide variety of whole cooked meats that wouldn’t look out of place in the window of the finest deli’s in the South. Taste, of course, is everything and all the cooked meats are regularly monitored to ensure that the end product is just as good as the samples you tried at the beginning. Being BRC certified means that everything else that contributes to the product’s overall quality is carefully monitored and regulated regardless of volume, delivering the best products in the business.
